Imperial Professor Dies in Tragic Accident
Harvey Flower, an IC Materials Science professor, was killed in a tragic accident while holidaying on the Isle of Wight last week.
While reading on the beach in Shanklin, a parked car was knocked over the sea wall from the esplanade, causing Professor Flower serious injuries. The driver of the car that caused the incident has not been identified but was also taken to St Mary’s for treatment.
He was a leading light in his field, having received the Imperial College Armstrong medal in 1974, and the Rosenhain medal of the Institute of Materials in 1988. He lead the largest research group in the Materials department, that of Materials Processing, and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him, worked with him or were taught by him.
Our condolences go out to his family, colleagues and students.
