Reading Festival - Here we come
Since both sites for Reading and Leeds festivals have sold out, you are probably wondering why you’re reading this, well never fear – there’s always the off chance that they’ll release more tickets between now and then, we can always hope.
If you’re lucky enough to have a ticket then great news for you, as you’ve probably read in a previous edition of Felix, the Dance Tent for one is going to be amazing this year, Vitalic, Soulwax, 2ManyDJs, Headman and more. I recon the organisers read my mind this year to create the best ever Sunday dance line-up, I suggest you definitely go and check Vitalic out, his blend of electro/dance rock is sure to please both the alternative and the dance crowds this year.
Enough of the dance tent, people go to Reading to see bands right? Well it just so happens that this years line-up is pretty sweet on that front too. The main stage boasts Frans Ferdinand, Muse and Pearl Jam for the headliners amongst, obviously a host of other acts throughout the day. Belle and Sebastian, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Futureheads are amongst my personal favourites on the main stage this year, but check out the full line-up for the others. If the more mainstream bands of on the main stage don’t tickle your fancy, then fear not, the Radio 1 and Carling stages are hosting a plethora of acts over the 3 days, expect to see the likes of Peaches, Hot Chip, Mystery Jets, Broken Social Scene, and The Fall amongst others that are sure to please all but the most obscure music fans.
Now that I’ve got the customary introduction to the acts for the weekend out of the way I won’t ramble on any more about them, since you probably know exactly what bands are playing and you definitely know which ones you’ll be checking out, nothing I say is going to influence you, I’m not that powerful yet. What I can write about however, are all the other things that keep the festival running and entertaining whilst you’re wandering about the site (you can’t surely watch bands ALL day can you?) or trying to get some much needed sleep in that tiny tent.
Hopefully, less mud this year.
Hooray! This year Reading Festival has a quiet camping field for those of you who don’t want to be kept up all night by drunken hoards of people singing, random shouts of ‘Bollocks’ and the noise of some idiot playing an acoustic guitar all night, anyone can camp here so if you fancy being at all coherent by the end of the festival, get here early. Other improvements to the site this year include 23 hour a day breakfast served up near the main arena, so you won’t run the risk of missing your midnight snacks, entertainment also goes on later through the night, with Silent Disco (a disco where everyone wears wireless headphones) open till 3am and the cinema until 4am, so if you really can’t sleep or don’t fancy catching the early morning acts the next day, check these out.
If you’ve read this far, and you don’t have a ticket, don’t worry, you can always try your luck getting entry via the numerous charities there, or by working for the Campsite Assistant Teams, don’t wait too long to check it out though, details can be found on the Reading website.
Of course if you do have a ticket, this year like other years, you can get early entry on Wednesday to the site for and extra £10, so if you really don’t fancy walking ¾ of a mile to get to the arena, I really suggest you get one of these, since the fields will be pretty packed if you don’t arrive super early on Thursday.
All that leaves to say is have a great time at the festival this year, and we’ll see you there. Check out the website for further information and upcoming competitions.
