At approximately 12.45 this afternoon, Thursday 20 July, police were called to investigate a suspect package in the post room in the basement of the Huxley building.

A source close to the incident revealed to Felix that the package was addressed to the Rector, Sir Richard Sykes, and was post marked from Edinburgh. Ceri Davies, Head of Security, told Felix "the package was identified as suspicious under x-ray. We treat all such incidents with precaution".

Within half an hour two fire engines, several ambulances and specialist support units were in attendance. Approximately 25 police officers were also present to manage the situation. Large areas of College have been evacuated and police are requesting identification from all persons attempting to enter campus via Callender Gate, the vehicular entrance from Price Consort Road.

Felix will keep you updated with any further developments.

Re: College Bomb Scare
I happened to be in the Huxley building at the time this happened. The first I knew of it was when I went to get some late lunch and heard people talking about it! Nice to know they care about my safety.
