Semi-finals beckon ladies football
Women's Football
Imperial College XI 2
RVC XI 1
Let me first remind you of that "lovely" Wednesday, two weeks ago, which the entire team remembers, oh well, the people who "actually played".... We went to Harlington with only 7 players, to face a full strength GKT team, in our last BUSA game. Our formation was 1, ahem, 5. They won (obviously) and thanks to our fab goalkeeper, Muna, the result wasn't as bad as expected. The only thing we did during the whole match was clear the ball, well except for twice when the ball (somehow) landed in our own goal (extra dedication to our team!). The only 2 things that cheered me up that day were Popps' phone call, saying how much she's proud of us and watching Skeeno downing those pints in pre-Bola Bola night.
Four days later, on a very windy, freezing and rainy Sunday morning (9:30 a.m.), we were back in Harlington to play our quarter final second leg against RVC, this time with 11 players. With tears in our eyes (either from the happiness of having a full team or from the touching speech before the match) we went to the pitch (and had to wait about 5 mins for the ref who went to wash the ball, did I mention it was showering?).
From the beginning, we had the match in our control and we played one of our best matches this season. Throughout the match Chin (our captain) and Meg bombarded RVC with their powerful shots. Pav and Dil, who was back after a long time, played a fantastic match and Diltwo amazing footy skills stunned us all. Non-stop attacks with Meg and Diltwo in front, Chin and Popps in the centre and Mona and Yoke in wings, made the opponents tired and confused. The first goal came early in the first half with a lovely shot from Meg. Despite Meg's fantastic runs and great game, no one was marking her most of the times. RVC's goalkeeper and defenders' mistakes gave us many good chances. Every attempt by them (especially their number 9 and 10, who were desperately trying to touch the ball at least once in that game) was cleared by our fab defenders Chloe and my fellow CivEng mate, Jools. The second half came and our strikes resulted in the second goal, which again was scored by Meg. RVC's number 4 was trying to kill Poppy somehow during the entire match and finally there came one of those horrible tackles again and Poppy's cry was heard throughout the entire IC sports ground. Popps showed her love & dedication to the team, coming back and playing after a few minutes (We love you too, dear). In the last 10 minutes, we scored an own goal which is becoming a habit recently (*coughing*) and made the opponents a bit hopeful and there came the lovely final whistle and we were through to Semis!!
Especial thanks to our 2 supporters Garo and my sis, Hanieh, who were frozen by the end of the match. Soaking wet and tired we hit the showers and thank god, I finally got rid of Richie P's mocking comments, going around the entire CivEng department, shouting out last Wednesday's score. Having grown a complex for the number "11" this season, we hope that in our last 2 matches, which are cup matches, (well, "two", hopefully, if we get to finals) we will have a full team. As I was telling my fellow team mates before our quarterfinal clash ,in our group hug, most of them wont be here next year (*sniff sniff* ).So let's win this cup girlies!(or at least the second place medals. That'll def do for Jools, I guess!).
Here we come Semis, ready and powerful!
