The past week has been very eventful for the Ladies 2nds with three matches against different medic teams within a week. The first match was looking like it was going to be more difficult than expected as on Monday we only had 8 players but thanks to the RSM we managed to get an extra 4 players, we actually had a sub! We didn't realise how vital having a substitute would be until, less than 45 seconds into the match Ghostbuster was hit on the head by the GKT captain in our attacking D, that's one way to try and ensure someone doesn't score! Anyway having stopped play for 5 minutes Ghostbuster was escorted off the pitch sporting a very lovely bruise just above her eye. It was time for Dukie to come on and show us how good she is as a forward. So after that little drama, IC continued with a lot of the possession but it took a long time before we made it off the score sheet with Yankee Doodle starting the scoring. The half seemed to go on for ever but after the half time oranges provided by Porno and the half time encouragement from Fanny-Pants we were determined to win by more than 1 goal! Taking this on board White Russian got out there and got another for IC. GKT did press up and cause some problems with JD running about all over the place and caused 3 Times a Lady and Rock Monkey to do a lot of marking in defence, this was nicely covered by Porno who not once but twice let the ball go under her stick, and apparently it was a dummy tackle! With Scab's fantastic running in the middle, IC got back into control giving Dominator much more time on the left to get the ball up to Mouldy to score another storming goal. The game was finished off nicely by Yankee Doodle who got her second, not bad for an IC debut.
This raised spirits for Sundays match against the 3rds. This time we had an abundance of players, a bit of a luxury for us! However it all went down hill from there, the opposition turned up an hour late ad then conceded a walkover because of it, so the less said about that the better.
Wednesday saw us at home for the third time in a week. Yet again we had substitutes but this time we also had some support from the boys, so we under some pressure, luckily we were playing the medics! We got off to a great start, pressuring them from the word go, Yankee Doodle had obviously got a taste of winning and scored another stormer to start. That had got her in the mood for more and she scored twice more in the first half. IC were really passing well and once Top Heavy managed to hobble into the D, her toe was broken last time we played ICSM, she got in there with one. The half time whistle blew and our team talk was just ways of thinking how we could score more. Inspired by this Yankee Doodle was on a goal spree, scoring again and again, not to be too greedy White Russian managed to get her feet round the ball she managed to score a beautiful goal. The IC attack was working really well and even 1 Under got close to scoring we her fantastic little run. So after a couple more dummies from both White Russian and Porno who managed to fall over, Yankee Doodle got a couple more. The final whistle blew just as IC were awarded a short corner, first time round it was a bit scrappy but we managed to get aother. This one was fantastic with a great strike from Top Heavy from the top of the D, scoring her second of the day. A mention must got to the defence, Rock Monkey, Dominator and 1Under, as they did have to do some marking in the match, just not too much! So Yandee Doodle got seven in total, Top Heavy two and White Russian one, this was the perfect way to round off a week of brilliant hockey. A Special mention goes to 4play who was the only one of the boys that could be heard heckling, sorry I mean supporting, from the side line for the entire match, even if he was wearing a girls coat!
