RSM Ladies 1st XI 2
Queen Mary 2nd XI 1
After trudging across London with a surprisingly full team on an even more surprisingly sunny afternoon last Wednesday, the RSM Ladies hockey team arrived a little late for our match against Queen Mary's 2nds, but even the second umpire was later than us so it didn't matter in the end! After a quick warm up and a very fast 7 minutes of training for our brand new goalie Ruth, the match was underway. The RSM Ladies dominated from the very beginning, with great moves from Alice B and Dasha up the right wing. Our first goal came within 10 minutes but was disallowed - for some reason you have to shoot within the lines, even in the 4th division! Not to be put off by this small rule the team fought on and managed to find their feet with a run of half a dozen short corners, finally converting one into a real goal with some superb and very scary hitting from Alley. With Anna and Stacey making a great team up the left, and Roxy displaying some awesome dribbling we were unlucky not to score again. QM never quite got control of the ball, so with a half time score of 1-0 we bundled off the pitch for the traditional orange slices.
Having run around like crazy in the first half, the second 35 minutes were a little slow to start with, and QM managed some good challenges before a sneaky goal found the back of our net. The RSM came back strongly, but with another goal disallowed and both Roxy and Charlotte taking on war wounds we needed to push on hard to the final whistle. Alice R moved up to keep on the pressure, leaving myself and Rachel with very little to do at the back, so we enjoyed a nice little chat with the QM attack as the drizzle started to come down. With only a short time left Roxy managed our second goal of the match, and the final whistle blew 2-1. Lady of the match was shared by Stacey and Alice B for their brilliant performances throughout the match, a great inspiration as we continue our season of fun-filled frolics around the hockey pitch.
