Tamil Society's Mega Maalai
Last Tuesday saw the Tamil Society's annual charity event, Mega Maalai that was held at Hammersmith Palais. For those of you who are reminded of school discos or doctors and nurses night, believe me when I say that the place was transformed into a Sri Lankan wonderland. Standing on the balcony you could see outfits ranging from silk saris to denim mini-skirts and there were plenty of aunties and uncles looking extremely excited at the prospect of seeing their beloved performing!
Annakan Navaratnam and his committee must be applauded for the excellent show, which left the audience gasping and cheering at the break-dancers, singers and comedians. I must mention the group Pick'n'Mix whose break-dancing was unbelievable. Throughout the show I was standing on the balcony surrounded by several medics who kept shouting "that's slick, man!" Couldn't have put it better myself!
