Theft overshadows successful freshers' fayre for RSM
Some time between Monday 5.20pm and 11am Tuesday morning over £300 cash and £975 in cheques was stolen from the RSM C&SC office. The money, which was in a white cashbox, was stolen from a cupboard within the RSM Office. It is believed that the cupboard in the office was mistankenly left unlocked overnight. However, despite heavy usage of the office, the front door always remained locked when not in use. The money, most of which came from regalia sales over the summer, is unlikely to be recovered and will set the RSM back financially for many years.
With only limited access to keys for the office the RSM is baffled as to how it happened. The news came just as the RSM was having the most successful freshers fayre on record with over 120 people signing up to the golf club and over a 100 to the football club. At one point in the early afternoon the RSM hockey club was getting more interest than IC hockey! The day finished with the most successful pub crawls for many years in the RSM. All of which makes the theft seem more out of place. But the miners will not be deterred. If anything, it has spurred them on to have an even more successful year, raising more money than ever.
