Physics Group Theory exam scripts lost
All the examination scripts from the recent Group Theory paper in the physics department have been lost on a train.
A letter from the Assistant Registrar (Examinations) told students that "extensive enquiries involving Network Rail, the Metropolitan Police and the British Transport Police have failed to locate the scripts, and it now seems clear that they will not be recovered".
Every student will initially be credited with a mark based on the average mark from their other papers, or the pass mark, whichever is greater.
Students will also be offered the opportunity to attend an oral examination on group theory. If their performance is better than their assigned average mark, their group theory mark will be raised accordingly. No adjustment will be made if their performance is worse or they choose not to attend the oral.
No written resits will be available. The letter states that "this is to ensure all students affected receive identical treatment, and to avoid placing additional work or pressure on them".
Alex Guite, President of the Physical Sciences Union, told Felix: "Obviously students are annoyed but I think the College has come up with a good solution to the problem."
