State of the Union

Posted: May 28th 2004, 15:35

I’m not really sure what to talk about this week as I’ve got nothing I particularly want to say. (I spent a couple of ours writing my six page annual report for the AGM so I’ve had more than my fair share of a platform this week.)

Email fatigue

I suppose I would like this opportunity to complain about the fact that I started the week with around 1500 unread emails. After a couple of late nights I have got this down to 1035. Unfortunately I got a little distracted and haven’t had as many late nights in the office. So, if you are waiting for an email reply from me, sorry. I’m trying to conserve my energy for another year…

Tropicana

Incidentally I remembered to go shopping this week (for a change). Amongst the special offers in Sainsbury’s I noticed a new flavour of Tropicana which contained avocado. This was most random so I thought I’d buy it. I haven’t actually got around to drinking any of it yet so I can’t tell you what it tastes like.

Rumours

Apparently there are some rumours going around about me. They are not true. (Well, mostly not true.) If they were true they wouldn’t be rumours. It’s as simple as that. Oh yes, and just for the record, I did not put that goldfish in the office shredder.

Sen hunting

I’ve been trying to talk to my predecessor about something. In theory Sen Ganesh is still a student in the Department of Computing. In practice he never seems to be around and never answers his mobile phone. I’m getting increasingly worried for his well being. Please if you do see him, email me (president@ic.ac.uk) with the subject line “Sen sighting” and include brief details of where and when you spotted him. A piccie to prove it would be reassuring too.

Colourfulness

I mentioned last time that all students can nominate anyone for the award of Union colours. You’ve got until the 5th of June and can fill out a nominate form online at union.ic.ac.uk/colours/. Go on. Nominate someone. It’ll make the meeting the Colours Committee meeting go on just that little bit longer. Some of the members of the committee will appreciate that.

Finally

No I’m not bonkers. I’ve just always been a little “youthful” and “eccentric”. That’s possibly why some of you voted for me (the first time around). Plus I had half a page to fill. And 1035 emails to read. And oh, so little time.
